Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has resumed training after taking part at the Indian Wells. The 29-year-old has struggled with fitness concerns in the past. He suffered a major wrist injury in 2022, which ruled him out of action for two years.
Kyrgios returned to the court late last year but has continued to struggle with fitness concerns. The former world number 13 participated recently at the Indian Wells, where he was forced to retire in the first-round clash against Botic van de Zandschulp because of wrist discomfort. The final score of the match was 7-6, 3-0.
Kyrgios has posted a story on his social media platform, Instagram, where he can be seen returning to practice after taking part at the Indian Wells. The move seems to be an effort to regain full fitness ahead of the upcoming ATP 1000 event, the Miami Open. The competition will begin on March 19, when some of the top players in the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize. The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up, while talking to the media after retiring from the contest at Indian Wells, stated that his recovery from wrist injury has ‘got progressively worse’.
"I wasn't too confident that I was going to be able to play today, to be honest,” he said back then. “Two days ago in practice I had to stop my practice because I felt pain in my wrist. I felt like it was okay to take the court. Just, yeah, got progressively worse. But, yeah, started feeling sharp pain in my wrist. Yeah, I mean, look, I thought the level was good. Played some really good tennis, and it was entertaining first set, could have easily took that first set," he added. "Yeah, just think, I don't know whether I could have done something different in my preparation. I don't know. Yeah, two days ago definitely set me back a bit. Yeah, that's pretty much it."
