The 20-time Major champion Rafael Nadal has been one of the greatest players of all time, constantly pushing himself to improve his game and chase new goals.
Rafa's uncle Toni is responsible for almost his nephew's entire career, making him a humble and dedicated player and a person who never underestimated his opponent. Toni worked with Rafa until 2017 when he stopped traveling and took care of Nadal's Academy at home in Mallorca. Rafa's old friend and compatriot Carlos Moya became his new coach, knowing everything about his game and improving his tennis even more in the late stage of his career.
"My uncle Toni was the Manacor Tennis Club manager, and I started going there when I was three years old. From the age of eight or nine, it did seem that I had outstanding qualities, and from then on, things did start to look more serious. The goals that my uncle had with me were undoubtedly ambitious. I started working with Carlos Costa when I was 13 years old.
He is my manager, and with him, I have the utmost confidence to talk about anything or explain to him any problem that may arise at any time. Carlos has a broad vision of my career, not only in terms of sport but as a person. He knows how and where I am from and what suits me and my game. I consider him as a friend more than anything else.
I've known Carlos Moya since I was 14 years old; he was one of the world's best players while I was still starting at that time. Today he is my coach and an excellent friend. In the past, he was a Davis Cup teammate and always there for me. He started working with me in 2017, knowing my game well and giving me a proper perspective," Rafael Nadal said.
