With all the drama going on at the 2021
US Open, former champion
Andy Roddick took to social media to share a photo of some of the lesser-known traditions at Flushing Meadows.
The 2003 champion posted a picture of tennis shoes all lined up in a changing room, and revealed that players leave them for staff working at the tournament.
‘Just one row of the shoes that have been left behind in the US Open locker room for the attendants from the players … One of the cool traditions that never gets talked about.’ - wrote Roddick.
Several fans were unaware of this practice, with some asking if the shoes were worn by the players or brand new.
‘Probably slightly used. Maybe some new ones also depending on if the companies want the players to switch to a different style in next tournaments.’ - responded Roddick.
