World number two Novak Djokovic can face number one seed Carlos Alcaraz in the final of Wimbledon 2023, that is according to the draw that took place on Friday.
The 36-year-old will be defending his title, which he won after beating Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the final with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6 last year, in the third Grand Slam of 2023.
Djokovic will face Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in the first round of the mega-event which will be played from 03-16 July in London.
His first real test is expected to arrive in the quarterfinal stage where he is likely to face one out of world number seven Russia’s Andrey Rublev, world number 12 Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, Kazakhstan’s top-seeded player Alexander Bublik and last year’s finalist Kyrgios.
Djokovic might get a rematch of the French Open 2023 final against world number Casper Ruud in the semis whereas a dream clash against the current world number one Alcaraz can only take place in the grand finale.
The Belgrade born is on a 28-match winning streak in Wimbledon as his last defeat came way back in 2017 when he lost to Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals stage after being forced to retire with an injury to his arm.
Since then, Djokovic has won four consecutive Wimbledon titles which took his overall title tally on the grass court to seven. He is now sitting on the second spot in terms of most Wimbledon men’s singles titles won, just behind Switzerland’s Roger Federer and joint second-highest with America’s great Pete Sampras.
