It is Day 11 at the Miami Open with the men's semi-finals taking Centre Stage with Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz on a potential collision course with two players aiming to stop them and mark a potential surprise final.

Djokovic took down Sebastian Korda yesterday 6-3, 7-6(3) after previously defeating Lorenzo Musetti and Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the previous rounds. It would be a first title since the ATP Finals in 2023 for Djokovic albeit technically of course he won the Paris Olympics last year.

He is pushing for a potential seventh title at the Miami Open this weekend after ironically a poor Indian Wells and not playing the sunshine double in recent years either due to being banned from the US or it not figuring in his schedule.

He will be widely expected to win his semi-final, he faces Grigor Dimitrov who saw off Francisco Cerundolo on Wednesday in three sets as he went to near exhaustion. The only saving grace for him is that he hasn't played in two days.

This of course as well due to the fact that Djokovic had to get ready for two days in a row to face Korda only for the first time to be axed at the very last minute. Djokovic has a 12-1 Head to Head record against Dimitrov. Their last meeting came in 2023 when Dimitrov lost 6-4, 6-3 to Djokovic in the Paris Masters final. Djokovic also won in the same year in Rome and it has been a storied tie over the years after having mirroring careers at times.

Both are vastly different players now and are coming towards different points of the twilight of their career. Dimitrov's only win though came all the way back in 2013 meaning he has one of the worst Head to Head records of any active player against Djokovic. Albeit Monfils and even Taylor Fritz don't paint a prettier picture and as a result it could be perfect for Nole who could yet face Fritz in the final over the weekend.

Fantastic Fritz faces Czech upstart Mensik

Onto the second semi-final which follows on this evening with Taylor Fritz perhaps not the winner that is wanted if you want Novak Djokovic not to win the title given the 10-0 record for Fritz against Djokovic which is one of the worst on tour.

Fritz saw off Matteo Berrettini yesterday in a thrilling three set affair and now has his sights set on Mensik. It has been otherwise a pretty simple run through for the third seed who took advantage where Alcaraz and Zverev could not. He saw off Adam Walton, Denis Shapovalov and Lorenzo Sonego prior to Berrettini.

All of this too after battling an abdominal injury through most of the Spring as he opened up after winning through his openers at Indian Wells. "I feel healthy. But yeah, I'm not going to feel as good tennis-wise as I have been, like, playing a lot of tennis and super confident, just because, yeah, had to take some time off to get it better. I'm not going to, I guess, feel like I have the proper prep. I knew I was going to have to play myself kind of into the tournament, and I'm doing that."

Jakub Mensik will look to spoil the party.
Jakub Mensik will look to spoil the party.

Fritz and Mensik have played once in the third round of the US Open back in 2023 where it was a rout as the American showed his experience in a 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 win.

Mensik played back then on his 18th birthday when he was still in the early stages of his pro career. He is a different player since then and has also played a lot less tennis than his opponent in the semi-finals.

Mensik took down Arthur Fils last night 7-6, 6-1. He had previously not played in the Last 16 as Tomas Machac withdrew after defeating Roman Safiullin, Jack Draper and Roberto Bautista Agut. So in reality his toughest test came against Draper in the second round.

So in terms of fresher players, look no further than Mensik. In terms of experience and guile look for Fritz. Also it depends if you're a Djokovic fan as no doubt if you are, Fritz is preferred than the rising Czech ace who could cause a seismic shock this weekend.
