Taylor Fritz has had a stellar second half of the 2021 season, and has given credit for his recent success to reverting to his mindset when he was a junior.
The American finished runner-up at the
St. Petersburg Open last week, and has also made the semifinals of five other events this season, including a solid performance at last month's Indian Wells event. Fritz credits his recent improvement to rediscovering the mindset that helped him succeed during his early years on the ATP Tour.
"Anyone saw me two years ago, and the way I play now knows that I am playing with much more confidence and hitting tougher balls, using my weapons so much more and finally playing the tennis I know I should have been playing for a long time. It feels really good," revealed Fritz.
Currently ranked World No.26, the 24-year old injured his knee at Roland Garros earlier this year and required surgery, but returned to competition four weeks later.
"It feels incredible coming to the important key points of matches, no second-guessing or worrying about things—just show up and play my best, hit my best shots at these kind of moments," added Fritz. "That’s what I did when I was 17-18 years old, kind of coming up on the tour. That’s what made me a very good player when I was younger. That cold-blooded feeling is finally back."
