The best of
Carlos Alcaraz may be yet to come, after the Spaniard made some confident statements following his easy round of 16 win at the ongoing
Barcelona Open.
The two-time champion faced
Laslo Djere for a spot in the quarterfinals, and required just 70 minutes to dispatch the Serbian in a 6-2 6-4 victory. Alcaraz has been in great form over the past week, winning the Monte-Carlo Masters before cruising through the quarterfinals in Barcelona, where he's yet to drop a set.
Alcaraz believes he can do better
Although the reigning Wimbledon champion faced little difficulty during his victory over Djere, the Spaniard did not seem completely satisfied with his performance. Following his match, Alcaraz spoke on his mindset, pointing out how he could improve various aspects of his game for the rest of the tournament.
"From 4-2 against me in the second set, I can say I played more at my level," admitted the former World No.1. "He made a lot of mistakes in the first set, he basically gave it to me, I just had to be there. In the second set, things improved a little. I'm happy I was able to raise my level.
"For the analysis, we focus on ourselves, on what I did wrong, what I did right. There was a little disconnect in the second set, it gave me a little drop in energy. Even though the result shows that the match was comfortable, there are many things I can improve for the next match. Maybe I was too passive at times, you always have to move forward."
Alcaraz will take on Australian ace Alex de Minaur for a spot in the semifinals.
