Dominic Thiem can face off in a mouthwatering second-round tie of the
Astana Open.
The competition
is set to begin from September 27 to October 03 in the capital city
of Kazakhstan.
The draws for the
tournament have been made and one potential mouthwatering tie can take place in
the round of 16.
The former world
number three Wawrinka will kickstart his campaign with an opening-round fixture
against America’s Marcos Giron.
On the other hand,
Thiem, who has recently returned to full fitness after struggling with a number
of injuries in the past, will face off Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas in the round
of 32 clash on Wednesday.
Both players have
faced off four times in professional tennis where the 38-year-old has an edge
with three wins compared to Thiem's one victory.
Netherlands’ Tallon
Griekspoor is the top-seeded player in the tournament. He is set to face off
the winner of the match between Roberto Carballes Baena and the qualifying player
in the second round.
Home favourite Alexander
Bublik has already booked his place in the next round of the tournament. He
will face the winner of the match between Marton Fucsovics and Sebastian Ofner
in the round of 16.
