Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic has expressed his sadness over the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and hopes the conflict would come to an end sooner rather than later.
"There is a lot of sadness happening in the world right now," Tomic wrote on his Facebook page. "My heart goes out to every single person affected by these horrible events. It’s important in this time to be grateful for things we do have, and try to focus on the positive as much as we can. I'm praying for everyone struggling right now and hope it will all be over soon."
The former World No.17 is hoping to make a comeback to the ATP Tour this season, as injury and lack of match play have seen his ranking drop outside the 300's. Tomic's lone appearance in 2022 came in the Australian Open qualifying event, where he suffered a 6-1 6-4 loss to Roman Safiullin in the first round. Shortly after the match, the Aussie was forced to take some time off as he tested positive for COVID-19.
Nonetheless, the 29-year seems to have recovered and revealed he plans to return to action at the Monterrey Challenger event, which starts on March 7.
"Hey, hey. Hope everyone is well. I'm flying to Mexico on the third of March," wrote Tomic on social media in late February. "Going to Monterrey for the Challenger there. I played there a couple of years back. It's a good event. It's going to be tough. Good players playing. 've been practicing well. I've recovered from COVID. And, yeah, wish me luck."
