Italy’s
Mattia Bellucci and Bosnia’s
Damir Dzumhur were
involved in an awkward handshake moment after their contest at the Miami Open.
The two faced off in the round of 128 of the ATP 1000 event in the Spanish capital
on Thursday, where Dzumhur came out on top with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
During the contest, both players were involved in a heated
exchange, which led to an awkward handshake at the end of the match. The whole confrontation started because of a VAR call. The video about the handshake was
released on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter. Bellucci
faked the handshake,e which left Dzumhur furious. In the contest, the 32-year-old
was far more disciplined as he committed 31 unforced errors in the match, 28
fewer than his opponent.
Dzumhur, overall converted four break points in the match,
two more than his rival. The Sarajevo-born star ended up winning 65 percent of
the net points in the match. In comparison, Bellucci won just 44 percent of the net
points on the day. Dzumhur won 63 percent of the service points, considerably
higher than her opponent, who managed to win 57 percent of the points while serving.
Next up for Dzumhur will be Sebastian Baez, who was given a
first-round bye. It will be the fourth meeting between the two players in
professional tennis. In the previous three meetings, Baez has had a clear advantage
as he came out on top on every occasion. Their most recent meeting was in the first round of the recently concluded Barcelona Open, where the Argentinian tennis star came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 7-5.
