Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he suffered from ‘trauma and anxiety’, but his car was stolen in front of his home in 2023. The 29-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best Australian players currently playing in the men’s singles category, has struggled with fitness
concerns over the last few years.
In May 2023, Kyrgios’ family was involved in a rather unfortunate event where a thief showed up at his door and asked his mother to give his Tesla car keys to him at gunpoint. The thief was arrested later that day, and the car was recovered. However, as per Kyrgios, his family has suffered from ‘trauma
and anxiety’, something he believes will not return to normalcy for a long
period.
"We assume the worst every time we hear a sound.
Nothing prepares you for being woken up to your mother's screams," he said.
"[I hope] the court recognizes the anxiety and trauma my family has been
through, feeling we can't be safe in our family home, the place I grew up and
where all those great memories now have to exist next to the memory of a gun
pointed at my mother's face.”
The Canberra-born star has struggled with fitness concerns in
the recent past and it is because of this reason he has now missed the last six
Grand Slams. His last appearance in the a major competition was back in 2022 US
Open where his journey came to an end as he suffered a defeat in the quarterfinal
to Russia’s Karen Khachanov with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.
Nick Kyrgios has struggled with fitness concerns and has been out of action since 2022.
It will be interesting to see whenever Kyrgios decides to
return whether he still has what it takes to deliver at the big stage. The
former world number 10 suffered an injury in an year which can be classified
his best at the highest level.
In 2022, he played in his maiden and, until now, the only Grand Slam final at Wimbledon against the former world number one Novak Djokovic. In that contest, Serbia’s legendary tennis star came out on top with a score
of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6(7–3).
