Jessica Pegula secured her place in the Adelaide International semifinals after Ashlyn Krueger retired in the second set due to physical discomfort. The World No. 7 took control from the start, showcasing her dominance and maintaining the lead until her compatriot was forced to stop.

In the first set, Pegula broke serve in the third game, taking an early lead. The American No. 2 pushed ahead 3-1 in just over 10 minutes and comfortably held the advantage throughout the set. Pegula landed 71% of her first serves, winning 83% of those points, compared to Krueger's 73%, which only converted into 55% of points won.

The World No. 7 fended off two break points in the eighth game and closed out the set 6-4 after 37 minutes. Pegula served three aces to Krueger’s four, while both recorded one double fault.

In the second set, Pegula quickly secured an early break and held her serve confidently to lead 2-0. However, World No. 54 Krueger called a medical time-out due to discomfort in her left thigh, which eventually forced her to retire from the match.

Later, Krueger also withdrew from the doubles competition, where she was set to partner with Pegula against specialists Jorachova and Danilina. It’s an unfortunate setback for Krueger, especially with the Australian Open just days away.

Pegula’s victory guarantees her a rise in the rankings to World No. 6, overtaking Elena Rybakina. Her next opponent will be the winner of the clash between Yulia Putintseva (No. 25) and Diana Shnaider (No. 13).
