Iga Swiatek, at an impressive level, sent a strong message as she crushed Rebecca Sramkova 6-0, 6-2 to secure her spot in the third round of the Australian Open. The 5-time Grand Slam champion dominated from the baseline and maintained high serving efficiency, defeating a tricky opponent in just one hour.

The Polish star returns to the third round of the Aussie Open, a stage she reached last year. From now on, every win will earn her ranking points, which could be crucial in dethroning Aryna Sabalenka from the top spot by the end of the tournament.

Swiatek rolls into third round

The start of the match brought back memories of Swiatek's best moments, as she delivered another of her signature bagels, a familiar sight over recent years. Although Swiatek struggled with her first serve (just 50% in), she achieved a 75% win rate on both first and second serves, not facing a single break point throughout the set.

The second set saw Swiatek maintain her aggressive play, though Sramkova initially showed more resilience. The World No. 49 won her first nine consecutive service points, keeping the score tight early in the set. However, in the sixth game, Swiatek secured a crucial break to go up 4-2, placing herself in a commanding position to close out the match.

Swiatek stayed in control, taking the initiative in a match with little rhythm, as longer rallies often ended with her hitting winners. The World No. 2 sealed her 6-0, 6-2 victory with another break. Sramkova, under pressure from Swiatek’s dominance, took risks but ended with 26 unforced errors and only three winners, a costly combination against one of the tournament favourites.

Swiatek now awaits a high-profile opponent, facing the winner of the match between Emma Raducanu and Amanda Anisimova, having dropped just nine games across her first two matches.
