After two losses thus far at the World Tennis League, Iga Swiatek has hoisted Eagles back into some contention after two emphatic wins to open up Saturday in the UAE.
She defeated Elena Rybakina in both tie as they currently lead 12-5 with two matches left as attention turns to men with Rublev and Tsitsipas set to feature in both in men's doubles and against each other in singles.
It was a first singles meeting for Rybakina and Swiatek since their Stuttgart final which was won by the Kazakh and hilariously saw her win a Porsche which she couldn't drive. She has since attempted to start driving.
But it was a win this time for Swiatek claiming a 6-3 victory. Eagles are still way behind Kites and will likely need to sweep the remaining two ties in order to stand a chance of getting close to them no mind catching Falcons and Hawks.
Falcons though are in pole position to qualify for the final so will need to get some wins on the board to seal their spot with Hawks and Kites set to face off in a crunch clash shortly.
While in the women's doubles, it was victory for the tandem of Paula Badosa and Iga Swiatek. They eased past Rybakina again as well as Caroline Garcia 6-2 to put themselves into a lead going into the men's portion. Certainly game on thus far today. Falcons lead with two wins over the past two days and are the only unbeaten team thus far in the UAE. But that could change in short order.
And it’s a fantastic start for Team #honorfx Eagles 🥳⁰@iga_swiatek fought fiercely against @lenarybakina & bagged not only a win, but also a 3 point lead overall🙇🔥⁰⁰#worldtennisleague #falcons #teamfalcons #gamechangersfalcons #tennis #tennisplayer #elenarybakina #season3 pic.twitter.com/zr3fZrSnaF
