Legendary tennis star Billie Jean King made history again on Monday by becoming the first woman to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the brand new Sports Entertainment category.

King becomes the first woman in the new category to be recognised, very apt for a trailblazer of tennis. She was joined at the ceremony by Magic Johnson and Jamie Lee Curtis. Both of whom have stars of their own.

Winning 39 Grand Slam titles, 12 in singles, 16 in doubles and 11 in mixed doubles. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame back in 1987. In 1970, she was famously part of the Original Nine breakaway group who formed their own tour which ended up being the WTA.

She was also one of the founders of World Team Tennis, the first co-ed professional sports league. Of course this is also on a week where the cup of her name the Billie Jean King Cup celebrating women playing for their country is also on the agenda.

Of course also she was part of the Battle of the Sexes wth Bobby Riggs which she won as she was one of the first ever full on tennis superstars.

"Some of my favorite memories were seeing the real Hollywood stars that just hung out down the road at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, Beverly Hills Tennis Club and others in the area — stars like Lucille Ball, Gilbert Roland and Doris Day. They were regulars and we saw them often — can you imagine my life as a junior tennis layer? Amazing," she said as per Patch. "Now you're kind enough to give me a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just like them."

"Sports are entertainment, and as athletes, we love performing in front of an audience. We love it," King added.

But while she claimed her star, the mission continues for King. "We all need to work together to make sure women in sports are celebrated here in Hollywood."
