Danielle Collins shared a video on social media from her 5-star vacation in the Bahamas, bringing back memories of her Australian Open controversy. In a new Daily Dose of Social Media, we also look at some of the reactions to the controversy of the day in the match between Christian Garin and Zizou Bergs.
Meanwhile, Flavio Cobolli gave a fun interview on ATP’s social media, while Emma Raducanu shared some snapshots of her arrival in Abu Dhabi for her next tournament—along with a new addition to her team.
Danielle Collins shared a video from her five-star vacation in the Bahamas, just as she promised weeks ago in her controversial Australian Open comments. The American was booed by the crowd at Show Court Arena after defeating young local Destanee Aiava in the second round due to her exaggerated celebrations and sarcastically blowing kisses to the audience at the end of the match.
The boos barely allowed her to speak during the on-court interview. "I was thinking during the match. I was like, 'If I'm out of here, I might as well just take that big fat paycheck. Coco (Vandeweghe) and I love, we love a good five-star vacation. So part of that check is gonna go towards that. So thank you guys, thanks for coming out here and supporting us tonight," Collins said.
After the match, she doubled down in her press conference, emphasizing her plans for a luxury vacation with her team. "One of the greatest things about being a professional athlete is that the people that don't like you and the people that hate you, they actually pay your bills," Collins stated. "Every person that has bought a ticket to come out here and heckle me or do what they do, it's all going towards the Danielle Collins fund. Me and my group of girlfriends, we love a five-star vacation so I can guarantee that cheque is going to go towards our next five-star trip – hopefully to the Bahamas."
The American was eliminated in the third round by eventual champion Madison Keys, earning a paycheck of AUD $290,000 (£147,500). Now, she has shared a video from her vacation and, true to her style, left an ironic message: “This five star vacay brought to you by @coralsands_harbourisland 😘💗”

Emma Raducanu is ready to move on from her painful Australian Open defeat and has shared optimistic images on social media as she prepares for her next tournament at the Abu Dhabi Open. The 2021 US Open champion posted a photo training alongside Roman Kelecic in Abu Dhabi. Kelecic, who previously worked with Raducanu during her junior days, is based in Dubai. It remains unclear whether this is a one-off collaboration or the beginning of a longer-term partnership.

Raducanu also enjoyed her time in the players’ lounge, where she was seen with her physiotherapist Yutaka Nakamura, who has previously worked with Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka.
The former world No. 10 further shared a series of Instagram posts showing her days in Abu Dhabi as she prepares for her next tournament, including several on-court training shots. Raducanu has received a wild card for the WTA 500 event, where she will face former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, who also received a wild card. If she advances, she will take on Kazakhstan’s No. 4 seed Yulia Putintseva.
Flavio Cobolli was featured in a fun ATP video while waiting for his Rotterdam Open debut. The Italian star took part in media day, where he playfully attempted to act out phrases given to him by the production team.
The video showcased Cobolli’s expressiveness and sense of humour as he laughed alongside the crew while trying to nail the shots. The Italian will make his debut on Monday against No. 8 seed Hubert Hurkacz, against whom he holds a 0-2 head-to-head record.
Christian Garin’s Davis Cup situation against Zizou Bergs made headlines worldwide after the Belgian player sprinted across the court and collided with the Chilean during a changeover.
While celebrating a key point in the third set that put him ahead 6-5, Bergs ran toward his bench and, in mid-jump, crashed into Garin, causing him to fall to the ground. The Chilean refused to continue playing, demanding Bergs’ disqualification, but instead, he received three consecutive warnings for time violations, culminating in a game penalty that sealed the European team’s victory.

Nikoloz Basilashvili reacted by sharing an image of the moment on his Instagram stories, commenting: “If Novak did this, he would be defaulted for life WTF.” Meanwhile, 18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova weighed in on X: “I am sorry—that should be a default. Out of control. Mind you, the screaming is not great either😳.”
