In a new Daily Dose of Social Media, we review some of the most striking and entertaining moments of the day on the ATP and WTA Tour. World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz shared some photos of his days off in the Riviera Maya with his family, while Daniil Medvedev starred in a fun "Tennis 101" video on the ATP Tour, hilariously explaining tennis scoring.
24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic attended the Miami Open to play the final, despite having swelling in his eye, which was completely red, while Aryna Sabalenka stole the spotlight with her celebrations after winning the title at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Daniil Medvedev starred in a fun "Tennis 101" video for the ATP Tour, where players attempt to explain the basics of tennis. They asked Medvedev how he would explain tennis to someone who had never played before, and the former world No. 1 dived into the particular way tennis scoring works. “I would say, strange. And I can explain why,” he stated.
“I saw a standup comedy, not long ago. And the guy says, the first time I come to play tennis with my friend, and he goes, guy wins one point against my friend wins one point. And then 15 ‘love’... what! Already? That fast?”
“Then he goes, he wins the next point; 30 ‘love’. And he’s like okay, now I see how it works. And then he wins the third point and he was like 45 ‘love’. And then the guy goes ‘40 love’. And then after the next point, he goes ‘1-0,’” Medvedev said, laughing. “So yeah, strange to someone who doesn’t know tennis, but then you get into it and it’s a lot of fun.”
The 2021 US Open champion had a tough run at the Miami Open, losing in the opener to Spain's Jaume Munar. Medvedev was defending the final he reached in 2024 (losing to Sinner), so he lost a significant number of points, which caused him to fall outside the top-10 in the rankings. Since breaking into the top-10 in July 2019, Medvedev has been almost uninterrupted in that zone, with the only exception being two weeks at No. 12 in 2023.
Roger Federer enjoyed a hiking day in Switzerland, sharing a collection of photos on his social media. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has been enjoying his retirement since the Laver Cup 2022, a period during which he has alternated appearances at events – both within and outside the world of tennis – expanded his business and investments, and also made time for his family. In the photos, he is seen with his wife, Mirka Federer.
Aryna Sabalenka starred in several fun videos with her Miami Open trophy, her 8th WTA 1000 title in her career, bringing her total to 19 titles. The Belarusian defeated Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the final to secure her second title of the season. It was her third consecutive final where Sabalenka ended Pegula's dreams, having also claimed titles at the Cincinnati Open and US Open 2024.
Sabalenka had an impeccable run at Miami, defeating defending champion Danielle Collins (No. 14), Zheng Qinwen (No. 9), Jasmine Paolini (No. 6), and Jessica Pegula (No. 4) along the way – all in straight sets. With this win, the world No. 1 avenged her last two final losses: at the Australian Open to Madison Keys and in Indian Wells to Mirra Andreeva. She remains comfortably at the top of the rankings with over 3,000 points ahead of Iga Swiatek, practically securing her spot as No. 1 during the upcoming clay-swing, where Swiatek won’t be able to gain points since she is defending two WTA 1000 titles and Roland Garros.
Carlos Alcaraz shared a photo of his free time with his family after his time at the Miami Open. The Spanish tennis player took advantage of his days in North America, and despite an unexpected early exit in his debut, he had planned some downtime before returning to Europe. The 4-time Grand Slam champion spent time with his family in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, enjoying a few sunny days before heading back to Europe for the clay swing.
Alcaraz was surprised in the second round of the tournament by former world No. 6 David Goffin (7-5, 4-6, 3-6), marking his second consecutive loss to the Belgian. The 21-year-old Spaniard is now looking ahead to his next commitment at the Monte-Carlo Masters in two weeks, where he will be without his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, and will have Samu Lopez as his main coach. However, the partnership with Ferrero remains intact, and he will join Alcaraz's team at future tournaments.

On this rainy Sunday, the 37-year-old Serbian, who has been crowned champion at the event six times, arrived at the facilities of the Masters 1000 Miami Open to compete in the tournament final against 19-year-old Jakub Mensik.
However, upon his arrival at the practice court, an alarming image caught everyone's attention, casting doubt on his condition to play the decisive match against one of the biggest rising stars on tour at the Hard Rock Stadium: his right eye was visibly swollen.
Captured in detail by the broadcast cameras, it was also seen that the Belgrade-born player, who dreams of his 100th title on the men's circuit, paused his rally with his team to walk over to the bench and apply eye drops to the affected area.
Although no details have emerged from his camp, specialized journalists suggest it could be a stye or conjunctivitis, considering that a few days ago, during his last match against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (15th), he had shown a small swelling beneath the same eye.

Parece que sufre de algún problema ocular. Veremos si es algo que le limite de cara a la final de Miami. pic.twitter.com/kyVfAi5oAH
Besides, Novak seems to have a stye recently, and it looked worse today at practice.😥

Is there no one in #DjokovicTeam taking good care of him?😫😠
ps. One of the stye's symptoms is sensitivity to light. Now I hope the rain continue and they cancel the match tonight. pic.twitter.com/ezyKnVMIkW
