Monday's action has been completely cancelled at the 2025
Madrid Open after a power outage which has affected a huge part of Europe including Spain and Portugal.
With the Electronic Line Calling system unusable, streams going down and even a drone staying stationary above the court, the lack of power has meant that unlike other tournaments it is rendered impossible to continue.
Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva managed to win through earlier today as did Matteo Arnaldi before play was completely halted. Gauff was speaking in her post match speech and the microphone cut halfway through.
The outside of the courts descended into darkness with players including Marta Kostyuk putting on their Instagram stories pictures of candles like the dark ages. But play was no sooner to get underway.
Both the day and the night session including Sabalenka v Stearns, Shnaider v Swiatek and Tsitsipas v Musetti has been completely cancelled meaning a manic Tuesday awaits to catch up.
"For reasons beyond the control of the organisation and in order to guarantee general safety, the nationwide power-cut experienced in Spain on Monday 28 April has forced the cancellation of both the day and night sessions at the Mutua Madrid Open," wrote a statement by the tournament.
It is unsure as of right now when the power will resume so it could yet affect Tuesday at the Madrid Open too as chaos continues in Europe.
