The NCAA DI championship ended on Sunday with some
interesting results. The men’s, women’s singles and doubles matches were played
in the competition. This year, the competition’s organisers decided to hold the
singles matches in the fall instead of spring. That decision led to a start of
two-year pilot program.
The singles and doubles categories were revealed on November
16. A total of 64 players participated in the singles category whereas in the
doubles category, 32 teams participated in the event.
Columbia’s Michael Zheng lifted the men’s singles title. He
defeated Michigan State’s Ozan Baris with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. In the
women’s singles category, Georgia’s Dasha Vidmanova defeated Auburn's DJ Bennet
in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3 to lift the title.
In the men’s doubles category, the pair of Pedro Vives
Marcos and Lui Maxted of the TCU defeated Michigan's pair of Gavin Young Benjamin
Kittay with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 to lift the title. On the other hand, in
the women’s doubles championship match, the pair of Elaine Chervinsky and Melodie
Collard of Virginia defeated UCLA's pair of Kate Fakih and Olivia Center with a
score of 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 to lift the title.
