Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s
Jannik Sinner are regarded
as two of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles
category. They became the players who ensured that the former world number one
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic finish the season without a Grand Slam for the first
time in seven years.
Both Alcaraz and Sinner ended up sharing the four Grand
Slams in 2024. Interestingly, both athletes have a very similar outlook to their
respective profile on the social media platform Instagram as well. On Alcaraz’s
profile, the three pinned pictures are of him holding the French Open, Wimbledon
and the US Open titles. On the other hand, Sinner’s three pinned pictures on
Instagram are of the US Open, the Australian Open and the Davis Cup titles.
Alcaraz lifted the French Open title this year after beating
Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6–3,
2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. Few months later, he lifted the Wimbledon title for the
second time in two years after beating Djokovic in the final in straight sets
with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. Other than that, Alcaraz also won a silver medal
for his country in the Paris Olympics. He lost in the final of the singles
category to Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
On the other hand, Sinner lifted the Australian Open after
beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a
score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He then lifted the US Open title after beating
America’s Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4,
7-5. Sinner rounded off the year in style as he lifted the ATP Finals on home
soil after beating Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
