Although some might find it difficult to adapt to two different styles of coaching, Jessica Pegula has thrived under these conditions as evidenced by her superb performance over the past year.
The WTA star parted ways with former coach David Witt at the start of 2024, and begun working with “The Marks” - Mark Knowles and Mark Merklein. Pegula has experienced a lot of success under their tutelage, as she reached her maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open in 2024.

Working with two coaches has led to rewards

Pegula's fine run of form continued through the 2025 season, as she enjoyed a splendid run in March where she held 17-2 match win record. During this time, she won titles in Austin and Charleston, finished runner-up at the Miami Open, and overtook her friend and former doubles partner Coco Gauff as the top American on tour.
The 31-year old has shown little signs on slowing down, and does not appear distracted by having two coaches in her ear. The process seems to work for everyone involved, as each coach takes turns traveling with her on tour.
"At first it was just getting comfortable and getting into a routine with both, especially on the road,” said Pegula. “Now that we’ve worked together enough, it feels easy. They get along well, which is important, and they agree on how I should play and what I should improve.
“I like that I can get different outlooks based on what I need at the time. Also, the weeks on the road get long. It’s hard spending so much time with just one person. Having two helps mix things up and keeps it fresh.”
