Petra Kvitova announced on social media that she has married her long-time partner and coach Jiri Vanek.
Two-time
Wimbledon champion Kvitova has marked a major event in her personal life with her marriage to Vanek.
On the court, Kvitova has had a fairly successful season on the
WTA Tour, winning her biggest title in five years at the Miami Open, where she defeated 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets.
Despite having a difficult clay season, where she failed to record any wins on the surface, the Czech went on to have a better time on grass, winning her 31st career title at the German Open.
Wedding comes a year after engagement
Kvitova, currently No. 8 in the world rankings, has been coached by Vanek since 2016. They didn't become a couple until the early summer of 2021. In July 2022, they announced their engagement on social media, with Kvitova posting a picture of the pair, alongside the caption:
"Happy news we wanted to share with you guys... I said "yes" in my special place"
A year later, the couple were able to share photos of their wedding day. In a tweet, Kvitova wrote 'Mr and Mrs' above a picture of the two holding hands and gazing lovingly at each other.
The pair tied the knot at the Statek Oblik in the Bohemian Highlands, and guests included other well-known tennis players such as their compatriot
Barbora Strycova.
Kvitova has been engaged once before, to Czech hockey player Radek Meidl. They had announced their engagement to Czech media in December 2015, but the couple split up in May 2016.
Congratulations pour in from other players
Other tennis players were quick to congratulate the pair on social media, with world No. 1
Iga Swiatek writing "Congratulations! I'm happy for you", and two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur writing "Congrats" followed by three love hearts.
