Tennis fans have once again lashed out at
Nick Kyrgios, after the Aussie tennis star made a comparison of the prize money won between
Wimbledon ladies champion
Marketa Vondrousova and men's runner-up
Novak Djokovic.
After attention was drawn to the fact that Dan Evans would receive more money than Coco Gauff with both winning the recently-concluded DC Open, Kyrgios questioned why no one drew any comparisons between Vondrousova and Djokovic at this year's Wimbledon.
Kyrgios draws the ire of tennis fans with flawed comparison
"What about slams? Do we do this breakdown then? Vondrousova made more than Novak that week," Kyrgios tweeted.
While Vondrousova earned £2,749,036 ($2,974,458) in prize money after defeating Ons Jabeur to claim her maiden Wimbledon title, Djokovic took home £1,175,000 following his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz.
This led to several fans pointing out that the Vondrousova had in fact won the title, whereas Djokovic finished runner-up.
"Hmm... idk maybe because she actually WON the slam. I know that's a foreign concept to you so maybe show her some respect," the fan commented.
"One of them actually won the tournament," another fan chimed in.
"With every passing tweet my aversion to him grows," a user posted.
"bro evans and gauff both won the tournament. djokovic did not win wimbledon, so yes, vondrousova made more than him. think about this for longer than two seconds my dude," wrote another exasperated user.
