Russia’s tennis players Alexander Shevchenko and Anastasia
Potapova announced their engagement on Sunday.
The two have been dating for the last six months and in a
rather surprising turn of events, they announced their engagement on social
media platform Instagram.
They became the third couple from within the tennis world
after Madison Keys and Bjorn Fratangelo, and Mirjam Bjorklund and Denis
Shapovalov to announce their engagement this year.
Both players are just 22 years old and are currently in the
process of settling their feet on the tour.
Shevchenko is currently ranked 86th in the world
in the singles category and had a rather disappointing outing this year.
The Rostov-on-Don-born played in all four Grand Slams this
year but failed to qualify in the third round or beyond in any of the mega-events.
His most notable performance came in the French Open where
he was knocked out from the second round after losing to Italy’s Lorenzo
Musetti in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.
On the other hand, Potapova currently sits on the 26th
spot player in the WTA rankings and had a slightly better year than her partner.
The Saratov-born also played in all Grand Slams in 2023 and
her best outing was reaching the third round of the French Open and Wimbledon.
