Eugenie Bouchard tweeted after her victory over Dayana Yastremska and apparently aimed at Maria Sharapova.

The Canadian has slowly returned to form in Madrid. She advanced in the qualifying rounds with victories over Sara Sorribes Tormo and Elizabeth Mandlik, to face Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the first round, who has previously been investigated for doping cases.

After the victory, Eugenie Bouchard reacted on Twitter, which fans interpreted as a criticism of Maria Sharapova: "There's something about playing dopers in Madrid," Bouchard wrote.

The message was likely in reference to Bouchard's victory over Maria Sharapova in Madrid in 2017, shortly after the controversy surrounding the Russian's doping case. Bouchard deleted the post and made an apology that was responded to by fans.
