Somewhat expectedly
Amanda Anisimova downed
Naomi Osaka at
Roland Garros in two solid sets of tennis 7-5 6-4.
The American downed Osaka at the Australian Open as well but this time around she eased past her even more easily. Anisimova is far more comfortable on clay and she reached the semifinal at Roland Garros a few years ago. She's also in better form at the moment with Osaka battling a leg injury sustained in Madrid. The first set featured a battle between the players but Anisimova was on top for the most part.
Osaka never quite found the rhythm needed for it and she was not good enough in the crucial rallies. She simply looked content with the way she played not showing enough fire and generally not seeming as passionate about winning the match as Anisimova. She also sprayed 17 errors in the opening set which was 5 more than Anisimova.
The 2nd set featured more battle between the players but for the most part, Anisimova was again better. Osaka had a decent chance at 4-3 for Anisimova to break back but she squandered a 40-15 lead in that game. From there, things rather snowballed quickly and Anisimova finished it off with 6-4 in the 2nd set. Good win for Anisimova at the start of the
French Open.
