Former world number one Angelique Kerber has announced her second pregnancy. The 37-year-old announced the development in a post on the social media platform Instagram with the caption: “Counting down the days for someone special to arrive in our family.”
Kerber is already a mother of one. She also announced her first child's arrival in a post on her social media platform. "Welcome to our family, Liana," she wrote. "Having you with us is the most beautiful & overwhelming feeling we could have ever imagined."
Kerber had a fabulous career and finished it with three Grand Slams. She officially retired from the sport in 2024. She claimed the number-one spot in the WTA rankings in 2016. Her first major title was the Australian Open in 2016, when she defeated the former world number one Serena Williams in the final with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The same year, the Bremen-born star lifted the US Open as well where she defeated Karolína Pliskova in the final with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Her last major title was at Wimbledon in 2018, when she defeated Williams in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
The only major title Kerber failed to win was the French Open, where her most impressive performance was in 2012 and 2016, where on both occasions, she was eventually knocked out of the competition after losing in the quarterfinal. In addition, Kerber won a silver medal in the 2016 Olympics. She lost in the final to Monica Puig with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
