Aryna Sabalenka made headlines on Saturday for the line-call drama which saw the World No.1 grab her phone and take a picture of the ball mark which was called out at the
Stuttgart Open.
Sabalenka though put it on her story before it was deleted to prove she did actually take the pictures and what she did was valid. But she also wasn't backwards of coming forwards in regards to the umpire in her post match press conference.
Sabalenka spoke afterwards and said the umpire didn't have the guts to admit the mistake they made and they should've admitted it and make the call. She said that ordinarily she wouldn't let such an incident get to her but in this case it did.
"it was definitely in. I understand. I mean, everyone can make mistakes, and I'm not the one who is going to be complaining to the referee. I'm usually quite respectful. But I think you cannot make this kind of mistake."
"I think you have to, if you make the mistake, I think you have to have guts to admit it and make a call. I guess not everyone has the guts to do that, but it's okay."
"Once again, everyone can make mistakes, and with a little bit of time, I had time to cool down, let's say like that, and I kind of like let it go, the situation. And it's okay, whatever happens there."
But it was an issue she had during the post match interview too where she said that the umpire definitely took umbrage to her taking a photo.
"I felt the referee was p****d by the picture I took. When I gave her a handshake, that was a very interesting look and a strong handshake. I've never had that before, but yeah," said Sabalenka.
"Why would I play this game with someone like her," responded Sabalenka when asked if she squeezed back during the handshake.
