The match results are coming in thick and fast at the 2024 Olympic Games Tennis in Paris with a lot of players making up for lost time yesterday. Among them is Bianca Andreescu with the former US Open champion making her debut in the event and again looking at her vintage best. She defeated Clara Tauson 6-2, 6-3.
Andreescu returned earlier this summer at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and injury free, she has began to show signs that her form is there again. She reached a final immediately on her return to grass and has been a focal point on social media this week soaking up the full experience.
Posting TikToks of her experience in the Olympic village and her outfits, Andreescu has made the most of her first chance to play for her country in the event. It was also a good result in that she didn't get embroiled with the likelihood being that she has to face Vekic or Bronzetti tomorrow due to her opener being rained off yesterday.
But it was a victory in just over an hour for the 24-year-old who sealed two breaks in an emphatic opening set including having points for 5-1 before closing it out 6-2. She then battled in the second before breaking at 4-3 up to go one away and she served it out superbly.
She is one of many who have had it pretty easy this morning. In a thumping win, Maria Lourdes Carle thrashed Tatjana Maria 6-0, 6-0. While Maria Sakkari also was in no mood for an early exit. The Greek thrashed Danka Kovinic 6-0, 6-1.
Diana Shnaider is through also 6-2, 7-5, while Xiyu Wang and Xinyu Wang for China have both won through against Linda Noskova and Tamara Korpatsch respectively. No match today aside from the current tie between Sara Sorribes Tormo and Barbora Krejcikova has gone three sets.
