Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu will kick off her 2025 season with an appearance at the ASB Classic, following a five-year break from the popular event.
The former World No.4 last competed at the ASB Classic in 2019, where she made it to the main draw as a qualifier. The Canadian would go on a dream run, defeating the likes of Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki en route to the final. However, she would lose to German player Julia Georges in a rollercoaster final, winning the hearts of many along the way.

Gauff to skip ASB Classic for United Cup

Andreescu was ranked 152nd in the world when she made it to the final in Auckland five years ago, and her magical run that week sparked her journey to winning the US Open title later that year.
“I remember how incredible the crowd was,” said Andreescu in a statement. “I remember stepping out on the court – even though they did not really know who I was. They loved my game and I am sure they were rooting for the underdog. The support I had was incredible. That is the main thing I am looking forward to in coming back.”
Although the 2019 US Open champion will be adding some starpower to the event, the ASB Classic will be missing another US Open champion. American Coco Gauff, who triumphed at Flushing Meadows in 2023, opted to skip the ASB Classic in order to compete at the 2025 United Cup. Gauff will be teaming with compatriot Taylor Fritz and other US athletes, as the Americans attempt to reclaim the title they won in 2023.
