Wimbledon's social media accounts shared a story about
'dog-lover'
Elena Rybakina. They highlighted her significant contributions to
animal charities and the story of her dog, named in honour of her first Grand
Slam title.
The Kazakh player claimed the title at the All England Club
in 2022 after defeating
Ons Jabeur in the final, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Rybakina is
preparing to start her grass swing in a week's time at the WTA 500 Ladies Open
in Berlin.
Rybakina's heartfelt contributions to animal welfare
After her first Grand Slam title at SW19, the world No. 4
made a definitive leap into the elite of the Tour. Elena Rybakina has since become
one of the top contenders in every tournament she participates in, maintaining
a high ranking two years on.
Wimbledon's official social media channels shared the story
of Rybakina's dog, who was named 'Champion' in honour of her Wimbledon title in
2022. Before winning the trophy, the player already had a Beagle named Mulia,
but upon her return to Kazakhstan, she was introduced to a sleepy puppy, which
she then named after her most important trophy.
According to the post, Rybakina considers herself a
'dog-lover'. Hence, she has made various charitable gestures and donations to animal
foundations. In 2023, she donated money for 10 tonnes of food that served 3,500
dogs and 100 cats.
"Volunteers at the shelter described her as 'the most
celebrated tennis player of our century and a talented girl with a big
heart'," the video added regarding the 2022 Wimbledon champion.
