Emma Raducanu played two matches in the new season before the first retirement came as the British player was forced to retire in Auckland due to an ankle injury.
Raducanu was playing really well in this match against Kuzmova taking the ball early and playing really aggressive tennis. It worked well for the Brit early as she took the first set 6-0 behind superb play. Things were a bit more complicated in the second set as Raducanu was unable to take an early break despite having break points.
She lost her serve in the next game after missing some shots and Kuzmova was able to hold that lead for the majority of the set. The Brit was misfiring a bit more and then she rolled her ankle which made it even tougher to play. She received treatment after losing the second set and it was a long medical timeout.
She trie to play in the final set after getting treatment but it became apparent that she was unable to continue.

Emma has withdrawn from the @ASB_Classic 🇳🇿🥝 with an ankle injury Emma fell towards the end of the 2nd set and received treatment at the end of the set, tried to play but was unable to continue Sending our best wishes to Emma and hopefully she will be back on court soon 🤞
