Britain’s Emma Raducanu is set to lose some spots in the WTA rankings. The Toronto-born star recently gained some spots after having an impressive outing in the Miami Open, where she was eventually knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to the 2024 US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
However, as per the English media outlet Daily Express, Raducanu is set to lose some spots in the WTA rankings as she has decided not to take part in the WTA 250 event in Rouen. She will not be featured in the upcoming Stuttgart Open either. Instead, she will be practicing behind the scenes to improve her performance on the court.
After losing to Pegula in the last-eight clash of the Miami Open, the former world number 10 stated that she is going to take home some positives from her extended run at the competition. "Despite losing today (against Pegula) I can take some good positives from this week and look forward,” she said. "I think I just need to take a beat and kind of reevaluate what I'm doing. This week it was good but I need to kind of just figure things out and then I'll make a plan from there."
Raducanu was once regarded as the next big thing after winning the US Open at the age of just 18 back in 2021. The most impressive aspect of that triumph was the fact that the 21-year-old started the competition from the qualifying round but still managed to go all the way and secure the title after beating Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. In that competition, she achieved a lot of milestones. One of those were that she became the first player in the history of tennis, both male or female, to win a Grand Slam after starting the competition from the qualifying round.
