Ekaterina Alexandrova continues to roll on at the
Stuttgart Open and as usual in a match she wasn't expected to win, she has proven the doubters wrong thrashing
Jessica Pegula 6-0, 6-4 in just under an hour and a half. She is into the semi-finals in the German city.
Alexandrova had previously taken down Liudmila Samsonova and then Mirra Andreeva barely dropping games no mind sets and perhaps has benefited from the fact that she has played two games already compared to Pegula who had a simple win over Magdalena Frech.
But Alexandrova is always a known disruptor and can produce displays like this when the odds are stacked against her. She lost ironically mere weeks ago to Pegula in Charleston which continued the incredible run of the American.
She went on to lift the title after playing Austin, Indian Wells and Miami almost back-to-back. She took the week off instead of playing Billie Jean King Cup when she initially was going to play but all signs pointed towards Pegula given that she has produced such an incredible season.
Next up for Alexandrova will be Iga Swiatek or Jelena Ostapenko who face off next. While it may be expected to be Swiatek, given the Head to Head record it would be no surprise if it is Ostapenko. She has a stranglehold over Swiatek that not many players have with a 5-0 Head to Head deficit.
Is today finally the day? It was Alexandrova's day and she now has the joint most WTA top 10 wins in 2025 equalling Madison Keys and Mirra Andreeva. She has also levelled the amount she has got in a single year ever.
She also is well known for being a demon player indoors in particular already winning Linz earlier this season, a WTA 500 title and only losing to Jelena Ostapenko last season in the same final. A player to fear certainly.
