Jessica Pegula has been dumped out of the 2025 Indian Wells Open as the American has seen her winning streak come to an end at the hands of Elina Svitolina in what was a rain drenched outcome to their tie which saw the Ukrainian prevail 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Former World No.3 Svitolina won in just under two hours not including the three hour rain delay at the start of the third set to secure an epic comeback win. It snapped a streak of seven wins in a row for Pegula who won in Austin last time out.

Svitolina will face either Elena Rybakina or Mirra Andreeva in the Quarter-Finals in a tie currently taking place after being besieged by rain delays. After losing once already this season to Pegula, she wasn't going to let it happen again. Nearly half of Svitolina's matches have been against American players this year.

She converted five out of 12 points against Pegula dominating the final two sets. It also marks a new milestone as in her 11th career appearance in the desert, it is only the second time she is making it to the Quarter-Finals. In 2019, Svitolina reached this round but lost out to eventual champion Bianca Andreescu.

Svitolina since then has played some of the best tennis of her career since returning as a mother while Andreescu on the other hand is currently not playing show where their careers are. But despite having to come back to claim the win, it wasn't easy for Pegula when she was leading.

She survived four break points at 3-2 in the opener. But she managed to survive and then earned a pivotal service break for 6-5. She held on for the set.

But Svitolina hit 11 winners to four in the second to storm to parity at 1-1. This before the rain hit and held up play for three hours but on return she wasn't to be denied claiming a heroic win.
