Following her split with then-coach Andrew Richardson after her unexpected
Us Open title win,
Emma Raducanu is yet to find a new coach and some believe the task may be difficult.
Raducanu lost her first match since winning the title at the BNP Paribas Open
Indian Wells tournament, falling in the opening round to
Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Micheal Joyce, former trainer of
Maria Sharapova, believes the British teenager will find it hard to hire a new coach due to high expectations for results.
"I was really surprised with the wording of the statement that was released when Emma announced she was splitting with Andrew Richardson, saying she felt she needed someone with Tour-level experience," said Joyce in an interview with The Sun. "I didn’t like the statement. If you have a good coach and it works well, then you’d think you would want to stick with them. Why would you want a big-name coach?
"She’s a great player but it’s going to be a tough job for the next coach, as expectations are high.”
Raducanu is yet to name anyone, although she is currently working with Jeremy Bates, who coaches fellow Brit Katie Boulter. There is much speculation about who could get the job, with Carlos Rodriguez being the front-runner for the position.
