Caroline Wozniacki has been auspicious in terms of her absence from the WTA Tour during the past few months since last year's US Open but it seems she won't be returning anytime soon. The former World No.1 will become a mother for the third time.
Wozniacki who gave birth to Olivia Wozniacki Lee back in 2021 then add a son to their daughter with James Wozniacki Lee born in 2022. The Dane decided to return to the sport suddenly back in 2023 after her farewell in 2020 followed by an exhibition in 2022.
She faced Ons Jabeur in Copenhagen in a match delayed due to COVID-19 but it seemed she was soon set to reverse that decision. While she returned to much fanfare, she struggled for results at times during her comeback.
Given she is now 34, it has to be wondered whether she will return again after a stop start comeback which saw the former Australian Open champion reach the Last 16 two years in a row at the US Open.
But she didn't play post Flushing Meadows last year and it seems there is a reason for that. The only sort of news that came out of the Wozniacki camp as to not playing was her withdrawing from the Australian Open.
Having got herself in the position to not go through qualifying or wildcards, she said that rheumatoid arthritis was stopping her from playing in Melbourne.
"Officially switching to zone defense! Our family couldn’t be more excited to welcome baby #3 soon!" she wrote on X and other social media platforms.
The zone defense of course being a nod to her husband David Lee who is the father of the now three kids and is a former NBA superstar. They shared a snap on a beach together with their whole family with Olivia and James holding the baby scan. Congratulations to Caroline and her family on this news!
