Coco Gauff proved to be in spectacular form as the American smashed Kalinina 6-1 6-0 to move on in San Jose.
Gauff did not prepare much for this event but the American did play two exhibition matches in Atlanta dismantling both of her opponents rather easily. She continued that trend on the other side of the country by smashing Kalinina in just 55 minutes. There is not much to say here other than Gauff completely shined.
Kalinina is a player who has flat groundstrokes and generally likes to attack both sides. However today she faced a proper wall as Gauff got all the balls back. The American hit plenty of winners and forced Kalinina to overhit more than once providing a superb recipe for disaster for the Ukrainian.
Gauff dropped only 3 points behind her first serve and converted five of seven break points she faced. It was just a perfect match from the American who moves on in style.
