Coco Gauff opened her
Madrid Open campaign in stellar fashion taking down Anna Schmiedlova 6-0 6-2 in 61 minutes.
Like many matches today, this too was played under a closed roof and Coco Gauff was the player that got used to it much quicker and much better. Schmiedlova looked shellshocked at the start of the match rushing from one error to another. Gauff and her quickness gave the Slovakian so many issues and hse did not know how to handle it.
She also served really poorly and that undid her on serve as well. She won only 3 of 15 points on serve in the entire set not saving a single break point. Gauff saved two break points on her own serve and lost only 9 points overall on serve for the first set bagel 6-0.
The 2nd set went a bit better for the Slovakian but overall not much better. Gauff once again dominated on her own serve dropping 8 points overall. She also saved the only break point she faced. On return she was pretty strong on the 2nd serve and the first serve. Schmiedlova once again did not serve well and that was the major problem.
The quickness off Gauff also proved difficult to overcome and the 61-minute 6-0 6-2 display is a great start to Gauff's Madrid campaign.
