Following her meteoric rise to stardom after winning the 2021
US Open title,
Emma Raducanu has seen a spike in popularity that may prove to be overwhelming, according to
Coco Gauff.
Gauff shares a similar path as the British teenager, as the American made her breakthrough at the 2019 Wimbledon championships where she defeated
Venus Williams as a 15-year old. Although a year younger than Raducanu, Gauff advised the 18-year old Brit to avoid spending too much time on social media as it could be overwhelming.
"I put a time limit on my phone because I thought I was spending too much time on it. From 8.30am to 9.30pm I have limited access to apps," said Gauff.
However, Gauff revealed she found TikTok to be a safe haven before her matches, as the short-form video sharing app does a better job at moderating comments.
"For me, the best app when I've got a match is TikTok if I want to get my mind off stuff," Gauff explained.
"The bettors haven't got there yet! But also, I feel TikTok does a great job of filtering their comments and deleting inappropriate comments automatically. So it's an app thing too."
Both Gauff and Raducanu are competing at this year's BNP Paribas Open, with each seeded high enough to receive a first round bye.
