Elena Rybakina criticized the scheduling issues at the Canadian Open following her defeat to Liudmila Samsonova.
Rain in Montreal played a significant role throughout the WTA 1000 tournament. On Saturday, the semifinal between Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek took place, but the match between Rybakina and Samsonova couldn't be played and was rescheduled for Sunday, just a few hours before the final.
The former Wimbledon champion had already encountered problems with the schedule when her quarterfinal match against Russian player Daria Kasatkina concluded close to 3 am.
"It’s the first time when the match went that long and we finished also so late. It’s the first time and hopefully the last time because I think it’s been a little bit unprofessional from them,
“I cannot say really the tournament because I think that the most important is the WTA here, and the leadership is a little bit weak for now," Rybakina said.
"But hopefully, something is going to change because this year, it was many situations which I cannot really understand," she added.
Several fans commented on social media about the situation regarding the scheduling issues that adversely affected several players.
“I feel for her. That was brutal scheduling this past week, the organisers should be ashamed. Hope she recovers well for the US Open.”

"Let’s not forget the WTA runs a business and they couldn’t care less about the players, they do have their favourites and they maybe care a little about those. But Rybakina is not one of those and we’ve seen it in the past 4 or 5 tournaments. Montreal was just too much,"
"Rybakina very honest and on point in answers at this Press conference. Reality is the scheduling was ridiculous and hurt her chances to win the tournament and affected her health. I appreciate the WTA but they fell down badly on this. R was calm with replies."
