Serena Williams was very unhappy with the way her US open match against Ajla Tomljanovic went expressing regret over letting that match go.
Serena Williams arrived in New York with the knowledge it would be her final event. She played a really strong tournament beating Danka Kovinic in round one and then stunning Anett Kontaveit in the second round. She faced Ajla Tomljanovic in the 3rd round and played well taking the first set.
She lost the second and then the final one leaving her unhappy iwth the way it went. She's still bothered by 'letting go of that match':
“I was actually not very happy at all. Just because of the result. I was there to keep going and to keep winning. And yeah, it was more or less like, ‘I can’t believe I let that match go’ more than anything, you know."
She replayed it multiple times in her mind wondernig what could have gone differently:
“Obviously, it was a great moment and a great memory and I’ve never felt – I don’t feel like I’ve left anything, but I just felt like, ‘What could I have done better that day?’”
She also hinted at a potential return to tennis explaining that the word retirement is not really for her but for now she's focused on giving her life to something other than tennis.
