Canada’s Bianca Andreescu has revealed the reason behind guiding the Philippines’ young sensation Alexandra Eala. The 19-year-old becomes one of the hottest properties in women’s tennis after her incredible run at the Miami Open, where her journey finally ended in the semifinals after losing to America’s Jessica Pegula with a score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
During her way to the semifinal, Eala defeated three Grand Slam winners. She got the better of the reigning world number two, Poland’s Iga Swiatek, in the quarterfinal in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 7-5. In the third round, the youngster defeated the 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. In the second round, Eala secured another straight-set win against the 2017 French Open winner, Latvia’s Jeļena Ostapenko, with a score of 7-6, 7-5.
After her incredible run in the competition, Eala received support from Andreescu, which was confirmed by the young tennis sensation herself. The 24-year-old, who is also a one-time Grand Slam winner, has recently spoken to The National and revealed the reason behind coming out in support of Eala. Andreescu stated that during her early playing days, she had no support from other players and because of that, she wanted to ensure that no other player would go through that. “I want to be honest I didn’t have anybody reach out to me,” she said. “Nobody was friendly with me on the tour, no one would say hi to me & I told myself, I don’t want the next generation to feel that way.”
Andreescu and Eala are currently taking part in the Madrid Open. The 2019 US Open winner cemented her spot in the round of 64 after beating McCartney Kessler in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4. On the other hand, Eala has also cemented her spot in the second round of the competition after beating Viktoriya Tomova in the round of 128 in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
