Madison Keys is into the final of the 2025 Australian Open with the American surging past Iga Swiatek in one of the best comebacks seen in the tournament as she survived a match point en route and now faces Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
Keys who previously reached the final of the US Open back in 2017 admitted that she didn't remember Swiatek getting a match point with the interviewer on court herself saying that she was on the edge ready to go for the interview but didn't know herself that she got one.
But Keys was ecstatic as expected to get over the line and set up a showdown with Aryna Sabalenka. One that also went against the script with many expecting the tie between Sabalenka and Swiatek.
Keys played the Muchova role though who famously denied Sabalenka two years ago at Roland Garros the shot at the final. While they seem to play in WTA 1000's aplenty in the final, the Grand Slam hurdle has yet to be conquered. That also continues in this case. Will she deny Sabalenka a three peat?
"I'm still trying to catch up to everything that's happening. I'm in the finals woohoo. I mean that match was such high level and she played so well. I think I was fighting to stay in it and obviously really kind of ran with the second and the third was just a battle," said Keys on court post match.
"To be able to be standing here and into the finals is absolutely amazing. I'm so excited I get to be here on Saturday."
"There were so many big points and break point chances that either of us got. Did she have a match point? I feel like I blacked out. At one point I was just out there running around."
