Three big-name players have withdrawn from the Canadian Open. The tournament will be played from August 06-12 in Toronto, and some of the top players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent.
However, this year, three big-name players will not participate in the competition. The first of those will be world number one, world number one, Iga Swiatek. The Polish tennis star recently won the bronze medal at Paris Olympics as she defeated Slovakia’s Anna Karolína Schmiedlova in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
After the match, Swiatek, in a detailed statement, revealed the reason behind not taking part in the mega-event. “I’m sorry to announce that due to overall fatigue caused by the last couple of weeks on the court, I need to withdraw from the tournament in Toronto,” she said. “Due to an intense tennis schedule with the Olympics taking place this year and changing surfaces, I need more time to rest and recover in order to be ready to play the US swing in good health and at my best possible level.
Reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova is another notable player who decided to withdraw from the competition. She earlier issued an statement explaining her reason for the withdrawal. “The past four weeks have been incredible; however, the intense schedule has taken a toll on my body, and I need to prioritize my health to ensure I can continue competing at my best,” she said.
World number four Elena Rybakina, who recently missed the Paris Olympics, also withdrew from the competition. "Despite my best efforts to recover in time, my current health condition does not allow me to compete at the level required,” she said earlier. “Competing in Canada is always a special experience and I am looking forward to performing there again next year.” Because of these three withdrawal, Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens have automatically qualified for the main round of the mega-event.
