Defending Indian Wells champion Iga Swiatek cruised past Karolina Muchova with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory, securing her place in the quarterfinals. The two-time champion continues to thrive under the tournament’s conditions, despite changes in the surface material.

In one of the most anticipated WTA matches of the day—a rematch of the 2023 French Open final—the world No. 2 dominated from start to finish. So far, Swiatek has dropped only six games across her three matches. She will next face either Zheng Qinwen or Marta Kostyuk.

First Set

From the outset, it was clear that Muchova (No. 15) was not at her best. The Czech struggled with her game, conceding an early break, and moments later, Swiatek (No. 2) broke again. Muchova managed to land only 33% of her first serves early in the match, allowing Swiatek to race to a 3-0 lead.

The five-time Grand Slam champion didn’t slow down, quickly extending her lead to 4-0. Muchova finally held serve for the first time, which could have helped her regain some confidence. However, Swiatek remained relentless, winning eight of the next nine points. In under 30 minutes, she wrapped up the first set 6-1.

Facing Swiatek requires minimizing errors, but Muchova struggled in that aspect. She landed just 43% of her first serves and won only 40% of those points. The slower conditions allowed Swiatek to attack Muchova’s serve aggressively, making it difficult for the Czech to dictate play.

Second Set

Muchova had a chance to reset in the second set, but Swiatek was simply flawless. She found sharp angles and handled Muchova’s usual slice shots with ease. The higher bounce on this court played to Swiatek’s advantage, allowing her to dictate rallies.

Once again, it took just a few minutes for Swiatek to go up 3-0, and the world No. 15 never seemed to find her rhythm. Muchova managed to hold serve once in this set, but it was merely a consolation. Swiatek secured her fourth break of the match, sealing the 6-1, 6-1 victory and a spot in the quarterfinals.

With this win, Swiatek improves to a stunning 21-2 record (91%) at Indian Wells and remains on track for a historic third title at Tennis Garden—something no female player has ever achieved. She will next face the winner of Marta Kostyuk vs. Zheng Qinwen.
