Amanda Anisimova continues to have a fantastic year. The American who returned from a break in 2024 showed glimmers in her year back but went on to win Doha earlier this season and is now in the semi-finals in Charleston.

Anisimova took down Emma Navarro who she admitted isn't a player she likes facing despite being 3-0 against her. She said that the backdrop of playing in Navarro's home of Charleston where her dad Ben runs the tournament doesn't help either as she spoke on court and to Tennis Channel afterwards.

The latter also saw Steve Weissman adhere to her request for champagne on the desk as well as water for a post match beverage after such a battle.

“Emma is an amazing competitor. An amazing player. I wish this was a final. I feel so bad that we had to play each other this early on," said Anisimova on court.

"She’s been playing great tennis. It’s never easy to play her. She has a great attitude. It wasn’t easy but I tried to stop being so negative and just focus on every point. I’m happy with the way I was able to play.”

"I know everyone was cheering for Emma but it's all good. It was an amazing match, I really enjoyed it. It was a tough fight. It's not easy to play her at home tournament. I was saying I wish it was a final. But I enjoyed the match and I'm just glad to be in the semi-final."

"I was getting in my head, I don't like playing her so it's always tough. I think I just tried to shift my mindset like Amanda stay calm just enjoy it."

But as well as causing a storm on the court, she also courted controversy for her story after beating Mirra Andreeva in Miami after the 17-year-old complained about Anisimova taking an MTO for a blister. She showed the middle finger on her story which she said is still giving her grief. The caption 'we all know why' went viral albeit saw Anisimova in a polarising place of both love and hate on socials.

"My skin just ripped open. I was taping it in my last two matches, she (physio) was like I would and I was like I think it was fine and it started giving me grief again. I honestly hate taking a medical time-out for a blister, I felt so bad I was serving for the match but I really needed it."

Anisimova was pretty abrupt when it came to posting on social media saying she won't do so after this match. "I'm keeping it low-key."
