Eugenie Bouchard had her career hampered due to several injuries, but the Canadian appears to have made great progress in her recovery over the last few months.
Bouchard burst into the limelight when she reached the 2014 Wimbledon final, finishing runner-up to Petra Kvitova. After breaking into the top 10 that year, the Montreal native suffered a lapse in form that saw her drop in the WTA rankings. Furthermore, she battled various ailments that prevented her from developing any consistency, as she was forced to take time off each time to recuperate.
Most recent shoulder surgery a huge success, says Bouchard
Bouchard won her first WTA title in four years in 2020, but soon found herself on the sidelines for 17-months as she dealt with a shoulder issue. However, the former World No.5 appears on have completely recovered, as she updated fans on the condition of her shoulder on the latest episode of the Tennis Insider Club podcast.
“I am completely pain free. No limitations, nothing at all," said the 30-year old. “I actually think my serve got better [after surgery]. I know you hear about surgery and after the player never being the same, especially for shoulders. I literally was like what did you put in my shoulder, it’s like bionic now. I swear my pace got a little faster!”
Bouchard still makes occasional appearance on the WTA circuit, although her current ranking has her placed just inside the top 1000. The former Wimbledon finalist has developed a new passion, competing on the pickleball circuit where she is an active member of the PPA Tour.
