Leylah Fernandez cruises past Mladenovic to book spot in Abu Dhabi main draw

Former grand slam finalist Leylah Fernandez had to play the qualifiers in Abu Dhabi to get into the main draw and she did just that by beating Mladenovic 6-1 6-2.

It was a rather comfortable match for Fernandez who has that type of game which can quickly smash opponents n the right day. Today was one such day as Mladenovic simply could not do anything. Fernandez played very aggressively as she generally does and the forehand was doing a lot of damage.

Mladenovic hasn't been on her best for a while and without her serve she simply did not have enough to counter this one. The first set was 6-1 for Fernandez despite Mladenovic having several chances. It was just the overwhelming game of the Canadian that was hard to handle. The second set was quite similar as she took it 6-2 securing a spot in the main draw.

A solid match from Fernandez but she'll need to do much better moving forward. The serve was not a pretty sight today as she had 8 double faults in this one.
