The semifinal line up of the WTA 500 event the Guadalajara
Open has been completed on Friday. The tournament is moving towards conclusion where
the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize. The
fans are set to see a new winner of the competition as Maria Sakkari, who won
the competition last year, did not take part in the tournament this year.
In the first semifinal, Poland’s
Magdalena Frech will face
France’s
Caroline Garcia. The world number 43 booked her place in the last four after beating Canada’s Marina Stakusic in straight sets with a score of 6-4,
6-3. In the contest, Frech remained dominant throughout as she converted three break
points, two more than her opponent. She won 63.4 percent service points as
well.
On the other hand, Garcia cemented her spot in the next round
after being awarded a walkover against Marie Bouzkova. It will be the only second meeting between the two in professional
tennis. In the only previous meeting, which was earlier this year in the
Australian Open second round, it was Frech who came out on top in straight sets
with a score of 6-4, 7-6.
In the other semifinal, Colombia’s
Camila Osorio will face
Australia’s Olivia Gadecki. Osorio cemented her spot in the last four after
beating Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-2. Osorio was dominant on her serve in the match, as she won 61.6 percent of service points. She won 66.7 percent points on her first serve as well.
On the other hand, Gadecki registered her spot in the
semifinal after beating Italy’s Martina Trevisan in a three-set encounter with
a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. The primary difference between the players in the
match was Gadecki’s ability to break the serve of her opponent. She did that on
eight occasions. She also won 53.4 percent service points. It will be the first-ever
meeting between the two in professional tennis.
